A past president of the Leduc Chamber of Commerce, Donna Tona, has officially entered the race to replace out-going mayor, Greg Krischke in the October 16 Leduc municipal election. Ms. Tona currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer of OMG Handi Werkz, a crisis management consultancy company based in Leduc, Although Ms. Tona is the only mayoralty nominee who is not an incumbent councillor, it is apparent from her impressive CV, what she lacks in council experience, she more than makes up for in her 31 years of administrative and consultancy work. The latter roles have taken Ms. Tona across North America and around the world as a much-in-demand speaker in the fields of emergency management and crisis Intervention, among others.
In Tona’s varied suite of public service experience, she has been involved in many elements of civic government, from her role as Senior Civilian Administrator for the Calgary Police Service to management of Community Services and FCSS, as well as a host of other high impact positions in municipal administration. Locally, besides her chamber leadership, Tona has been involved in the 2008 and 2016 Alberta Games and has been President of the Leduc Curling Club.
Although she began her career in the Calgary area, Ms. Tona has been a Leduc resident for over 20 years. She believes managing growth is crucial for municipalities the size of her city as they make the leap from a small to a medium-sized city. She is a strong believer in openness and has vowed to publish all mayor expenses once a month, as well as reasoning behind attendance at any meetings, seminars or workshops where travel is required.
